Daily Step – A Messy, Blessed Life

Share

Today I’m grateful for this family of five.

As it may or may not come out in my writings, I’m a type A personality and a planner. But not even a planner could predict to a 100% certainty when her kids would be born. And that might have driven me a little crazy. My oldest was a week late and my twins were 3.5 weeks early.

And yet their birthdays were almost exactly 1 day apart (give or take 2 hours). And they both occurred connected to our anniversary.

So this week I’m grateful for this crazy group of five as we head towards our family week – 1/12, 1/13, and 1/14 to be exact.

I’m reminding myself of gratitude even as I might have threatened the cancellation of all birthday celebrations one or two times already this morning. I’m grateful even as bad weather enters town today at the exact time I’m supposed to get their birthday cakes. ?‍♀️

You can’t plan for everything, and I’m working on learning that step by step, day by day – trying to remember the grace that comes with every unexpected moment.

I’m grateful for this messy, crazy, unexpected life and for the husband who is walking through it all with me. And hope for many years ahead to continue answering a question posed so well by Mary Oliver in her poem The Summer Day:

“Tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
