Daily Step – Things take the time they take.

Things take the time they take.

Wow this is a hard sentence for me. After all, I’m an impatient person.

I want to know who it is I’m meant to become.

At almost 41, shouldn’t I know already? But admittedly, I can tell you I still don’t know everything about who I am supposed to be or what I am supposed to contribute to this world.

That drives me nuts sometimes.

The not seeing the whole road ahead.

The fuller quote from Mary Oliver reads: “Things take the time they take. Don’t worry.

How many roads did St. Augustine follow before he became St. Augustine?”

I think the same is true for many Saints… St. Ignatius of Loyola had so many twists and turns he didn’t see coming.

But he gave into faith and hope.

He let it guide him.

And his contributions have continued 500 years after he died.

Whether your 13, 20, 30, 40, or 75… I guarantee you… you are not finished yet. You still have some changes ahead – some big wins to celebrate and some big losses to grieve.

You have a lot of life left in you yet.

And worry isn’t going to help one bit in the process.

I keep telling myself that until hopefully, one day, I can let the worry go and be open to whatever comes.

I hope you do the same.

Because your light matters.

“Things take the time they take.
Don’t worry.”
