As we begin a new year, I invited guests to reflect on what their #dailystep #towardthegreater would be for 2020. Today’s post and my last post in this series is from @revlisad, Lisa Degrenia. Here is her step:
“This year, instead of new resolutions, I’m embracing new rhythms.
Resolutions are like light switches- on or off, accomplished or not. I rarely succeed at a resolution.
But I make my home in rhythm. Our bodies naturally bear the rhythm of breath and heartbeat. Our world is naturally grounded by the rhythm of moon cycles, seasons, and ocean waves.
Rhythms are ongoing patterns, a way of being. Rhythms are practiced, again and again until they mature into a reassuring cadence on the path of life, on the way #towardthegreater.
Toward the greater reminds me of intentional movement. It’s energized and chosen. It’s turned from one direction toward another, toward the greater.
For me, the greater is The Greater, the One True Living God. Turning toward The Greater is repentance and salvation and new life. “In him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
Turning toward The Greater is the intention to live in step with the movement of the Holy Spirit. That’s what I long for. To live and move in harmony, in rhythm, step after step with the Spirit.
My #dailysteps to live this intention is one simple step. Pray first. Pray before the conversation begins. Pray before the decision is made. Pray before the action is taken.
It’s far too easy for me to step out on my own. Praying first turns me toward The Greater, so I can hear the rhythm and follow.”
