Daily Step – Celebrating Unique Value

Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.

In this week focused on gratitude, I wonder how often I fail to let those around me know how rare and valuable they are.⠀

Like my son who sat patiently while I worked yesterday. I knew I had limited time before he’d need my attention, so I was rolling through things quickly. I noticed he was rooting around in my work closet for something, but I wasn’t really paying attention. After awhile, he asked for kid scissors and I absently handed them to him. ⠀

Finally, he came up to me and said “Look what I made!” And showed me this beautiful rainbow airplane. He has been fascinated with rainbows since he learned about them (and God forbid we ever put the colors in the wrong order).⠀

When it was time to leave, I handed him his creation to take home. “No, mom. I made that for you.” On the way to the car he explained that he loves giving things away because of how it always makes people happy.⠀

This morning I was listening to @jenhatmaker ‘s #forthelove podcast on which she had the writers of #ABeautifulDayInTheNeighborhood. Their conversation reminded me of this quote from #mrrogers:⠀

“As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has- or ever will have- something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.”⠀

How can you celebrate the unique and rare people in your life this #thanksgiving week?⠀
