Daily Step – The least you can do is figure out what you hope for.

The LEAST you can do is figure out what you HOPE for.

The LEAST?

How often do I take time to figure out what I’m hoping for and… even more… how often do I unapologetically name it?

Most of the time, I find myself thinking more concretely… more right now.

I think about what is on my to-do list.
I think about what my boys need right now.
I think about grocery shopping.
I think about what bill paying.

But I also think a little bit in the past as well…

I think about what missteps I’ve made.
I think about the things I forgot to do.
I think about the moments I let slip by.

But how often do I pause to think forward…

How often to I pause to consider what I HOPE for?

I love this quote from Barbara Kingsolver (admittedly an author whose works I last read in high school) to help remind me of where my focus should be:

“The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.”

What would it look like today if I considered what I hope for instead of my to-dos or my missteps?

What would it look like if I named that hope and then tried to live inside of it just for a day?

What would that change?

[Advent Week 1 is often labeled “Hope”. So this week I’m resting in that theme. Do you have any great quotes about hope that inspire you? I’d love to hear them!]
