Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.
“My work is loving the world.”⠀
⠀
Last week I felt like I struggled with creativity- and whenever that happens I easily convince myself that all my creative juice is gone and never coming back. What a dreary thought!⠀
⠀
It’s so easy to get caught up in the lack of things… instead of the abundance all around. I think my brain was probably just inviting me to take a break and spend some time noticing the world again and reclaiming what my work in this world truly should be. ⠀
⠀
Our work in this chaotic world is, as #maryoliver writes – is mostly to stand still and be astonished. And when we do, perhaps we can feel a flood of creativity and joy overcome us once again.⠀

“My work is loving the world.⠀
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird – ⠀
equal seekers of sweetness.⠀
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.⠀
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.⠀
Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?⠀
Am I no longer young and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters,⠀
which is my work,⠀
which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.⠀
The phoebe, the delphinium.⠀
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.⠀
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,⠀
Which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart and these body-clothes,⠀
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy⠀
to the moth and the wren, ⠀
to the sleepy dug-up clam,⠀
telling them all, over and over, ⠀
how it is that we live forever.”⠀
⠀
May we all find a moment today to pause and be astonished and announce it to the world with #joy!⠀
