Daily Step – Gratitude

Share

Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.

My twins can often burst into a room like a strong hurricane wind. They’ll run up to strangers and ask them deep questions like “Is that your book? Can I have it?” And when they face rejection they are unfazed and come back with “Well can you at least read it to me? Like, what does that word say? Is it your favorite book?”⠀

Sometimes I can get frustrated when others responses to life don’t match my own. Like when I want to sit quietly and disappear in a waiting room but my little extroverts have other plans.⠀

But when I stop to really think about it… their way of looking at life adds to my way of looking at life and makes it so much richer.⠀

#ThomasMerton once said “To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything God has given us – and God has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of God’s love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from God.⠀

Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.”⠀

I love this photo of me and my boys because it reminds me to laugh and participate in the joy that is who they are and who I am and how together we can live into gratitude.⠀

Who are you #grateful for today? Perhaps someone who approaches life differently than you do? ⠀

Let us pray in #gratitude for their presence.⠀
