Daily Stride – Remembering Mary

Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.

In this season of #advent, I sometimes forget about Mary.

In the #gospels around the birth of Jesus, she is silent. It sometimes makes her fade into the background for me. However, having gone through the birth of three children, I am somewhat saddened by this. I was in a hospital with epidurals and lots of machines and people helping me along – she was in a STABLE. And still for me birth was not easy, so I can not imagine it was for her. I imagine that she was not as quiet as she seems because… it’s just not an easy task to bring a child, even God, into the world.

So today, I’m thinking about #marymotherofGod which is fitting because today the #catholic church celebrates her #ImmaculateConception (when she was conceived without original sin). And later this week, we celebrate the Feast of #OurLadyofGuadalupe. I love this feast because it reminds me that Mary has always taken care to appear to a community in the dress, culture, color of skin, and speaking the language native to the people she is appearing to. It reminds me to not forget about Mary – someone who has influenced so many things I hold dear including the #Jesuits. After all, #stignatiusofloyola laid down his sword in front of Mary as he started to change the world.

As we enter into a week dedicated to #peace, who do you need to remember this #Advent season to let peace rein in your heart?

My #prayer today is the #Memorare:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.⠀
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.⠀
