Daily Step – Sticky Blessings

Share

Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.

Daily steps are originally published on Social Media @gdcrowder

For the record, I know some excellent moms that have sparkling clean floors and the laundry is always carefully put away (or that’s how it seems anyway).⠀

But I am not one of those moms. I remember clearly shopping around for our new house when I was pregnant with the twins and just had one 18 month old to deal with. I sat at the table at one of the houses with our realtor to discuss details and I commented “Ugh, why is this table so sticky.” I know now why – The house had five kids in it. ⠀

Now, years later I can’t seem to figure out why I can always find a “sticky” place on our table even though I swear I’ve cleaned it. And I have many weeks like this one where I’ve walked by the laundry I placed in the washer a dozen times thinking “I really have to rewash that soon.”⠀

So, I have to admit I ❤️ this sign… and the message that sometimes imperfection can be a gift. This portion of a poem called Rice by #maryoliver really spoke to me this morning:⠀

“I don’t want you to just sit at the table.⠀
I don’t want you just to eat, and be content.⠀
I want you to walk into the fields⠀
Where the water is shining, and the rice has risen.⠀
I want you to stand there, far from the white tablecloth.⠀
I want you to fill your hands with mud, like a blessing.”⠀

Maybe seeing sticky tables and piles of laundry as a blessing is not the blessing you need to see today… so what is? ⠀

What’s that thing that you can see as a blessing today that normally would drive you crazy? ⠀

I pray you can breath in the goodness and grace of it today.⠀
