Do you have big, bold, audacious dreams?
Do you share them with others?
Yesterday, one of my twins was telling me “You know mom, people think I’m a pretty good artist. I think I will maybe that when I grow up.”
Man I LOVE his confidence in his creative abilities. I remember loving creative things when I was small, but I didn’t have that kinda of confidence in them. I so want to protect that in him (help him see there is always more to learn, of course, but protect that).
Thinking of all the dreams my sons have and express inspired this poem today.
Maybe you can relate?
DREAMS AFLAME
Just two years ago
you dreamed of becoming
a FIREPERSON.
“I’m going to fight
the scariest,
hottest fires
and rescue
the most vulnerable,
frightened people
from the flames.”
Oh my heart,
how it lit up
as I dreamed that dream
with you.
Just one year ago
you dreamed of becoming
a TEACHER
“I’m going to teach
the littlest kids
or maybe
the biggest ones
and help them all
learn great
and wondrous
things.”
Oh my heart,
how it lit up
as I dreamed that dream
with you.
Just one day ago
you dreamed of becoming
an ARTIST.
“I’m going to create
the most incredible,
most original things
and inspire
others to believe
in the power
of imagination.”
Oh my heart,
how it lit up
as I dreamed that dream
with you.
Oh my heart,
how it lights up
so gloriously bright
every time you share
a dream with me.
Big ones or small ones,
it doesn’t matter.
I just am alight
with the simple joy
of the dream.
It makes me wonder
when did I last share
one of my dreams
with you?
Do you know I dream too?
Do you know my dreams
ebb and flow too?
Do you know how much I long
to see your face light up
as you dream my latest dream
with me.
After all, dreams,
they are meant
to be shared.
They are meant
to be spoken aloud
so your light and mine
may be combined
to light the world
on fire.
