Do you believe you are enough?
Exactly as you are?
If so, that’s awesome. Keep believing in it and modeling what it looks like for others. We need your example in this world.
If not, don’t worry… you are not alone.
I think a good majority of us struggle with this belief.
These days when I struggle with my belief in myself, I recall that God believes in me and that provides me some comfort.
God believes I am enough even when I do not.
God believes you are enough even when you do not.
Everyday I watch my three sons being so content and happy to be the unique persons they are, and I want so desperately for them to never lose that. I never want them to feel not enough. I don’t want to inadvertently share my own insecurities with them.
I caught myself the other day when they brought home a couple bad grades in school as well as a note for poor behavior. I immediately let my mind run to a place of “not enough.”
But then, I reminded myself to look closer, to engage deeper with the why behind the grades and the behavior.
I had to remind myself that low grades, mistakes, poor choices… none of these things ever equate to being “not enough.” They don’t decrease our worth as human beings who are afforded dignity and love simply by our presence in this world.
Sure grades and the meaning behind them should be addressed.
Mistakes and poor choices should have consequences.
But they don’t reduce our “enoughness” (I know that’s not a word… but should it be?)
We are enough, and to be an authentic person living in this world is to start believing in the truth of those words.
