Daily Step – It’s ok to have a moment of “Enough!”

Share

For the third day in a row yesterday, I called my husband while someone was throwing an epic tantrum and told him “I quit.”

But quit what, exactly? “Yea, mommy, what do you quit?” one son asked.

I don’t know. I quit quarantine? I quit being a fight mediator between identical twins who thrive is separate classrooms instead of one contained home? I quit first grade homework. I quit being constantly asked “mommy, can we have a snack?” I quit worrying about going places and worrying about others not worrying about going places. I quit trying to be three people at once.

I quit this pandemic.

“But mommy, you can’t quit.”

Oh darn. You are right. But man it feels good to just say that once in awhile and admit that things can get hard. An hour later, the boys were calm and everything was back in semi-order and I remembered, once again, that this time is only temporary. And that, in all truth, there are more peaks than valleys.

I saw this writer and artist’s name on someone’s page yesterday and it made me seek out more of what she has written. As I searched, I found this quote that is my prayer today for all of us who have had a moment during these last few months where we just needed to throw up our hands and say “enough!”

“When you start to feel like things should have been better this year, remember the mountains and valleys that got you here. They are not accidents, and those moments weren’t in vain. You are not the same. You have grown and you are growing. You are breathing, you are living, you are wrapped in endless, boundless grace. And things will get better. There is more to you than yesterday.” – Morgan Harper Nickols

The sun is barely up and so are my boys (one hour earlier than usual of course). They are already climbing all over me reminding me that it’s time to start again. “Mommy, come on, mommy… we are hungry! Can we have a snack?”

So here we go. Let’s get up and get started and live into that boundless grace God is waiting to share with us.

Have a blessed day.
