Daily Step – A prayer for your day…

Share

My mornings look so different this week.

For months I was waking up at 6:15 AM and having some much needed quiet time before my boys jumped out of bed ready to start the day (usually approximately 30 minutes). I didn’t have to pack lunches or find shoes… or wear shoes. Now, however, we all have to be up, dressed, fed and out of the house early once again.

So I’ve gone back to 4:30 AM wake ups. My body and mind are definitely taking a little while to adjust. But I find this time and space in the quiet darkness before my family rises… refreshes me. It helps me orient my day and, so far, keeps me fairly calm when trying to get three boys organized and into the car once again.

I know this week many schools are starting in a variety of modes – online, hybrid, in-person. And many parents who are new to homeschooling are giving it a try. It can be so hard to settle into this new routine and it’s gonna take time. And some prayer and a lot of faith.

So I’m thinking about all of you today who have kids or teach kids, may God grace you will all you need to know you’ve got this. And it will, in fact, be okay.

Please join me in this prayer by Pat Bergen, CSJ as we pray for and with one another:

Gracious God,
Thank you for the gift of today.
Refresh me. Invite me to discover your presence⠀
In each person that I meet
And every event that I encounter.
Teach me when to speak and when to listen
When to ponder and when to share.
In moments of challenge and decision
Attune my heart to the whisperings of your Wisdom.
As I undertake ordinary and unnoticed tasks,
Gift me with simple joy.
When my day goes well, may I rejoice.
When it grows difficult, surprise me with
New possibilities.
When life is overwhelming, call me to
Sabbath moments
To restore your Peace and Harmony.
May my living today reveal your Goodness.

Amen
