Along the journey towards the greater, there are many small, daily steps to better understand oneself, God, and others. This is one of my “daily steps”.
I’m still learning that everything doesn’t need to be perfect.⠀⠀

But I forget almost as often as I remember. And this weekend, I was reminded of the beauty of imperfection more than a few times.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
We had a couple rounds of family photos this weekend. My favorite thing to do whenever I have to coordinate my little family (which is pretty rare bc usually the boys wear whatever combo they want or a uniform) is to go to @oldnavy and find coordinating colors. I managed to get there on Friday just before picking up the boys and was excited with the combo I picked. ⠀⠀

But then, I forgot I had to actually get them to wear it. I fielded dozens of questions and concerns from the boys as I tried to get them dressed. “But I don’t want to wear that,” one said as I tried to explain why we couldn’t have a messy snack to the others right before leaving.⠀⠀

After a long week and now flailing excitement about the clothing choices, I got grumpy. At everyone. And at myself. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
But when I noticed one of my boys crying, I apologized. And through his tears he said “You know mom, not everyone has to look or act perfect in photos.”⠀⠀

Truth.⠀
⠀⠀
I’m still learning and that’s okay. As @brenebrown once said in the #GiftsofImperfection “Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”⠀⠀
