I don’t know who needs to hear this today but…
You. Are. Light.
That’s it. No because or if needed.
In God’s eyes, YOU ARE LIGHT.
Period. End of story.
Right now, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, how ever you are feeling – your light is shining brightly and the One who beholds you is basking in it.
Rest in that truth.
I’ve spent quite some time this weekend preparing for a talk I’m giving tomorrow night.
And my preparation led me back to this quote by Greg Boyle, SJ in his book Tattoos on the Heart.
Oh man, I really love this quote. The fuller quote goes like this:
“Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” I like even more what Jesus doesn’t say. He does not say, “One day, if you are more perfect and try really hard, you’ll be light.” He doesn’t say, “If you play by the rules, cross your T’s and dot your I’s, then maybe you’ll become light.” No. He says, straight out, “You are light.” It is the truth of who you are, waiting only for you to discover it. So, for God’s sake, don’t move. No need to contort yourself to be anything other than who you are.”
No need to contort yourself to be anything other than WHO YOU ARE.
I don’t know if you needed to hear this today, but I know I did.
It’s such a messy, messy time.
There is a lot of uncertainty and anxiety and confusion and frustration and missed things.
I feel like I’m on a bit of a roller coaster.
And I HATE roller coasters.

So as I started this Monday morning trying to psyche myself up to be ready for whatever life brings, I needed this quote.
I needed these words to remind me:
I. Am. Light.
And so are you.
May the warmth of that truth comfort and guide us today.
