Celebrate! It’s Chip Friday, y’all!
I can’t explain it but there is a sense of peace in me today. Perhaps it’s because today is the last day before a nice week break at home. Perhaps it’s because I’m almost a week past my first shot and it feels like light is coming round the corner. Perhaps it’s because the weather is breezy and 60 and comfortable this morning.
Maybe it’s also because it’s my favorite day of the week – Chip Friday. The day I pick up chips and salsa on the way home and eat them to my heart’s content while doing NOTHING but relaxing (well as much as my boys will allow me to). Everyone, I believe, needs a night like that at least once a week if possible!
Even as I feel a sense of peace this morning, however, I can’t help but feel anxiety try to creep in anyway. It always lingers there at the corners of me. It’s the anxiety that says “Don’t be too calm, you know bad weather is predicted on Saturday, right? You remember you haven’t finished x,y, and z yet, right? You haven’t forgotten those big decisions you haven’t made yet that are coming around the bend, right?
Anyone else experience this? An inner battle between peace and worry? Man, it can be exhausting.
So let’s fight for peace to win in our hearts today. Let’s pray for that grace to enjoy the moments of light and not let the shadows drown it out. After this year, we all deserve a little peace.
So today my prayer is a short one I’ve used many times before. May it bring you peace and light today:
“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”
St Teresa of Avila, pray for us!
And have a wonderful Chip Friday!
