Monday mornings are not always filled with inspiration for me.
I sat this morning in the quiet house after my husband left for work and tried to drum up some inspiration for you and me… some words of prayerful thought to guide us through another Monday at home.
But as I sat I could tangibly feel the anxiety that usually comes with Monday begin to creep in and take hold. I started imagining my to-do lists and my son’s to-do lists… I started imagining the mess of the house I conveniently didn’t clean yesterday (Mother’s Day and all)… and all inspiration just seemingly disappeared.
So after sitting here awhile, I realized maybe that’s my prayer today – a prayer for inspiration, a prayer for renewed hope and quelled anxiety for us all.
The following is a blessing by John O’Donohue called A Morning Offering that seemed like an appropriate prayer for inspiration today:⠀
⠀
“I bless the night that nourished my heart
To set the ghosts of longing free
Into the flow and figure of dream
That went to harvest from the dark
Bread for the hunger no one sees.
⠀
All that is eternal in me ⠀
Welcomes the wonder of this day, ⠀
The field of brightness it creates ⠀
Offering time for each thing ⠀
To arise and illuminate. ⠀
I place on the altar of dawn:
The quiet loyalty of breath, ⠀
The tent of thought where I shelter,
Waves of desire I am shore to
And all beauty drawn to the eye.
May my mind come alive today
To the invisible geography
That invites me to new frontiers,
To break the dead shell of yesterdays,
To risk being disturbed and changed.
May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love,
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.”
May your mind come alive today and may you waste no more time on anxiety or fear. For your life has a purpose just waiting for you to have the courage to live into it.
How can you live today into the life that would would love?
