Daily Step – Which ”it” will you chase?

Share

Are you currently chasing “it”?

I think there is a longing inside all of us to chase after “it” – the greatest talent, the most perfect job, the ultimate dream confirmed.

We long for “it.”

And we strive for “it.”

And we lament how long “it” is taking.

But someday, when we realize “it” (because it’s possible with hard work and determination and 1000 failures first we eventually will)… will we then be satisfied?

Or will we long for the steps along the journey that we overlooked?

I think about that a lot.

My personality is one that is always looking forward to something greater. I’m always, subconsciously sometimes and consciously others, analyzing everything about myself and the situations I am in and cataloguing all the ways everything could be… better.

And can’t everything be… better?

I’m constantly focused on the “it” that’s just down the road, like maybe just a few miles further and I’ll get there…

But maybe that’s the wrong “it” to focus on.

Maybe, instead, I should be getting to know the “it” that’s inside of me already – the gifts, talents, personality, passion, and beautifully imperfect humanness God placed right here in me.

Maybe, I should take time instead to figure out how to believe in the “it” right here inside of me, placed there by a God who loves and believes in me no matter what.

“Your problem is how you are going to spend this one odd and precious life you have been issued. Whether you’re going to spend it trying to look good and creating the illusion that you have power over people and circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it, and find out the truth about who you are.”
